Local Area Information
This is a beautiful area of France often over looked as everyone rushes further South. But we have loved living here! You will find peace and tranquility, wide open countryside, rural villages valleys and a stunning coast. The property is surrounded by farmland so an ever changing landscape as crops come and go. The coast has huge beaches that offer Kite Surfing, Sand Yachting or just lots and lots of space to walk, relax and swim. You will see battlefield memorials for the 1st and 2nd World Wars throughout the countryside for informative and thought provoking visits. Golf is a popular past time and the area boast some excellent courses nearby (go to the Golf page for more info). Food of course plays an important part this being France! Simple restaurants are a plenty but for those searching a more culinary experience we have both a two and a one starred Michelin restaurant in the area at nearby Montreuil sur Mer.
La Ferme de Reffy itself is situated at the crest of a hill between the Canche and Authie valleys on the edge of the tiny hamlet of St. Josse au Bois. The farm itself dates from 1650! The land is no longer farmed although we are surrounded by farmland that is. Now though you can relax in our spacious holiday cottages converted from original farm buildings, whilst enjoying 8.5 acres of private secluded grounds. We are known for the stunning sunsets that can be enjoyed from our land. We encourage people to take a bottle of something chilled up to the woods and enjoy watching the end of another great day sink over the horizon.......
Just a 5 minute drive down the valley to the village of Douriez and you will find a Restaurant/Bar and a Boulangerie (Bakery) which also stocks milk and other essentials. (A bike ride away for the more energetic!). 15 minutes drive is Hesdin with it's main square, street cafes, boutiques and a traditional weekly outdoor market. In and around Hesdin, you will find everything you need for your self-catering holiday. 15 minutes in the other direction is the renown historical town of Montreuil-sur-Mer, the setting for Victor Hugo's Les Miserables. Montreuil is a beautiful old town to wander around and it boasts a great selection of restaurants.
